Spring Fever

I talked to Nik’s teacher yesterday. She was telling me spring fever has hit the fifth grade. Everybody likes somebody and that causes weird, silly things to happen (as you can image if you remember the fifth grade!) She confirmed that Nik still likes the same girl.

Talking with Nik’s teacher made a conversation I had with Nik make more sense. Here’s the conversation…

Nik: "I can’t wait until I am 16 so that I can date."

My jaw drops to the floor as I calmly responded, "Oh yeah. Is there anyone special you want to take on a date?"

Nik: "No, but it will be weird to be on a date with you and Dad."

Me: "What?! Why would Dad and I be on a date with you?"

Nik; "Well you said when I turn 16 I can only group date. Since you and Dad date and I want to date we will have to go out together."

So I explain to him what group dating was and who else he would group date with. The relief on his face was evident as he realized he wouldn’t have to date with his mom and dad.

Hmmmmm, maybe we could make that rule for the girls though!

I don’t know. I think you should have just let him keep thinking he’d be going out with you guys. If he’s willing, that sounds like a pretty good arrangement for you guys. And if he doesn’t like the idea, maybe it would just discourage him from being in such a hurry to date. That’s cute anyway! 🙂
I don’t know whether you ever got the e-mail I sent you a few months ago. I’m an old friend of Adam’s from Camarillo. I enjoy your blog, which I found through Kirsten Kent’s blog (I think). Thanks! 🙂

That is so cute. I might just have to adopt the group dating with mom and dad with my girls. They are already liking boys. a bit scary for this mom.
