Surgery

Nik had his surgery yesterday to remove his tonsils, adenoids, and turbinates. He has been very nervous about having surgery, not even the bribe of missing school and getting tons of ice cream made him feel better! He did great though. It was a very long day. We got to the hospital at 9:30.

He was too big for the pajamas the kids usually wear, so he had to wear a gown. He did not like that at all!

Turbinates are selves on the side of the nose. The removal of them caused Nik to have a constant nose bleed for the rest of the day. The removal of the tonsils is the most painful part, but he is doing great. He had a hard time waking up. He just wanted to lay in bed. This is about two hours after he woke up! We finally left the hospital about 4:30. Tori went with me and was great! She slept the whole time.

He looked down and saw this red bandage around his hand and a little blood he thought the doctors broke his hand! It took me a minute to calm him down and explain it was just the IV!

Last night was hard. The doctors tell me the worst is still to come. I am glad we got it done. but I can't wait for this week to be over!

Congrats Rhea and Diane! We love you all!

Jeff and Kylie

My brother Jeff and his girlfriend Kylie drove up from CA to visit for Halloween weekend. Jeff lived with us for a while last year and the kids have really missed him. Having a new niece and Halloween were good excuses to visit. I loved having them here! They were so much fun and the kids love them.

They took the kids to the park one day. You can tell how warm it is because no one is wearing a jacket!

Candy Candy Candy

Usually I take all the candy Halloween night, put it all together, hide it and give everyone one or two pieces a day. This year the three older kids protested. They didn't want me to mix the candy. Well I did anyway, but Adam and I came up with a new idea. I dumped all the candy on the floor and gave each kid a plastic bag with their name on it. Then we went oldest to youngest and each person got to pick their favorite candy until it was all gone. I still get to say when they get a piece, but they have their own bag with their candy in it. They love it!

Ariana loves the suckers! Ammon took most of the Starbursts. Britain like the Twix. Kalixta picked anything chocolate. Nik and Zoe got a good mixture of everything. Now everyone is happy!
IMG_4451
Picking was fun. Ariana really got into it at the end. She would hold her candy up over her head like a trophy. Sometimes she would even take two pieces to make sure I was paying attention.

We will see how this works out, but so far so good!

Halloween 2008

Halloween, as always, was a blast. Adam’s haunted garage turned out great. My brothers and sisters all came over and spread out to help me.  They dressed all the kids up! Marci did a great job on everyones make up. They took all the kids trick-or-treating. I just stayed at home and relaxed with Tori! Thanks Guys! Here are the kids all dressed up!

Pumpkin Carving

Woo Hoo! One of my favorite things to do for Halloween is carve pumpkins. The kids all had a great time, as well as the adults.  We got some really good looking pumpkins too! Click on the picture to see the whole night.

Thanks Mom!

My Mom went back home on Saturday. We all miss her tons already. Before she left she went with Zoe to a Mother Daughter activity. They wore their pj's and did lots of girl stuff including painting their nails. They both did a great job painting. I had to take a picture because I have never seen my Mom's nails painted! Cute! Cute!

Before she went we took pictures of her and her 7 grandkids! You can tell how much Nikolas LOVES taking pictures!!

Thanks Mom for all you did when you were here. I don't know what we would have done without you! The kids all miss you and ask when you are coming back. Britain and Kalixta miss you the most. Britain got into trouble and went downstairs crying, "I want Grandma!" They need someone to make cookies with! I love you Mom! Thanks!

Pink Note

Kalixta got the privilege of telling her teacher, Miss Kara, that she had a new baby sister. Miss Kara sent home a pink note with a picture of a baby that said "Someone special was on the way. Britain and Kalixta's sister arrived today. Congratulation!" It was the first thing she told me about and then showed me when I got home.

Kalixta decided that Tori needed to see it too. She stood in front of Tori for a while just holding the note so Tori could look at it. Grandma called her for lunch so she propped up a book and set the note on it so Tori could still see it! After a minute Tori cried and Kalixta jumped up and asked "Can she not see the note?"

I love that my kids love having a new sister. They love holding her, touching her, looking at her, telling everyone about her. It makes my day to see all those sweet interactions!

Baby Tori

We've had the name Victoria Sophia Basua picked out for a while. We will call her Tori!  Victoria is Adam's Grandma's name. Sophia is Adam's great-grandma's name. These were both wonderful, special women for Tori to look up to as she gets older.

Here are some of the details. Hope it's not too boring! We got to the hospital about 7:30 in the morning. The nurses were a little busy with the couple next door. It turns out their names were Adam and Melissa also. I got hooked to the IV and they started the pitocin. I was dilated to a 2. The doctor came and popped my water bag at 9:05 am. I invited Marci to be with us at the hospital. She got there at 11:30, just in time to watch me get the epidural. (Hope that wasn't too scary Marci. They are great!) The anesthesiologist reminded us of Bishop Clark. He was funny and super great . He was very comforting! Anyway, about 1:55 I told Adam to get the nurse because it was time. He asked "Are you sure?"  But he did and they got the mid wife, Heather. A few pushes and she was here. I kinda pulled her onto my stomach and opened her legs to announce she was a girl. It was quite a moment.

They checked her and cleaned up and then ran off to deliver the other couple's baby. They left Tori with us. Usually they take her and clean her up. It was great to just get to hold her and bond with her.

When I called to tell the kids it was a girl they all said a disappointed "Awwwww!" Ammon said, "But I wanted a boy." But when my Mom brought them all to visit there was no complaints. They all love her, just like we knew they would.

She is a great baby. She doesn't cry much and is sleeping as well as a newborn does. She fits with our family perfectly!
